The author of Hebrews lists people of great faith and courage—Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson—and proclaims “surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, may we run the race with perseverance, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ.” (Hebrews 11:29-12-2)
The Gospel of Luke adds another witness—a bent-over woman who has come to the synagogue to pray and who Jesus heals out of the blue. She stands up straight and praises God, even when the religious leaders jump all over her for breaking the Sabbath laws. (Luke 13:10-17) We all need such witnesses in our lives. Who’s in your “great cloud? How do they help you run with perseverance, hope and faith?
