Wednesdays in Lent
Starting February 29
5:15 - Supper and Prayer
($5 per person, $12 per family)
6:00 - Lenten Study Groups
The Meaning of Jesus by Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright frames our conversations about who Jesus is and why he is relevant for our time. We'll discuss the divinity, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and the meaning of Easter. Books available in the office. (Feb. 29, Mar. 7, 21, 28)
The Christianity of Martin Luther King, Jr. Before he became a national figure, Rev. King was a pastor and theologian. His life and witness were shaped by his Christian faith. We'll explore his sermons, writings, and speeches to let his faith inform ours. (Starts Mar. 7, continues Mar. 14, 21, 28).
Set Your Face to the Future
Lenten Retreat - Saturday, Feb. 25
8:30 am to 12:00 noon
Early in his ministry Jesus "set his face to Jerusalem," which means he set his life in the direction God showed him. What are the decisions and crossroads you face? What derails you? How can your community of faith help keep you on track? Reflection, worship, silence, and solitude-a great way to begin Lent. Email unitedchurchsf@gmail.com to register.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
