Jesus: How Did He Live? What Did He Teach?
How Did He Pray? How Can We?
This month, at 11:00, our Kinders through 5th Graders hear stories of Jesus' life and ministry told by characters from the Bible. On Sunday, Feb. 5th, John the Baptist brings the story of Jesus' baptism. On Feb. 12th, a woman among Jesus' disciples talks about the disciples being called and about the calming of the sea. On the 19th, a woman who was healed by Jesus relates her story; and on the 26th, the Good Shepherd tells about his lost sheep and the 23rd psalm.
Ways of Prayer will be woven through the stories -- how Jesus prayed, how his parents and others around him prayed, and how we pray.
As part of the church's commitment to intergenerational teaching, UCSF adults, dressed in Biblical costume, will portray these characters. If you would like to step into Biblical times and bring a character to life for the children, please contact Andrea Hamilton!
Through their responses to open-ended, wondering questions and in discussion, the children will begin to think about meanings of the stories. They'll also explore the stories through art activities, including drama, led by Rachel Baker who is experienced in Children's Theater.
Jesus' Boyhood for our Preschoolers
In the Nurture Center, during both morning services, the preschool children hear stories about Jesus's boyhood. They'll engage the stories with games, songs, and art.
Children and Families Help at the Interfaith Shelter
United will serve the guests at the Interfaith Shelter during the week of the 12th through the 18th. Families are invited to sign up for "The Family Day" on the sheet in the Community Room. If we have more families than "slots," we'll add another time.
Prayer Child Program
If you are interested in being paired with a child or youth in our congregation and praying for her/him every day, please phone or e-mail Andrea Hamilton. On Mardi Gras Sunday, February 19th, during both services, we will commission the "Adult Prayers." (Even if you can't be at a service that day, we still welcome you as a Prayer!)
Children's Music Sunday Mornings - 10:25 am
Each Sunday, children of United have a chance to sing and drum. We meet in the Lizard House and generally focus on Spirituals, Native American, and World Music, with an emphasis both on healthy singing and improvisation skills with drumming. The children will sing in the 11:00 service on Feb. 12 and also Palm Sunday and Easter. We hope that your child will be able to join in the unique musical opportunities we have at United! For more information, contact Karen Marrolli (225-571-6352 or unitedchurch.karen@gmail.com).
“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 19:14.
